The Boston Herald says of Matt York’s new album Boston, Texas that ”the singer-songwriter uses basic building blocks — Holly’s chords, Hank Williams’ swagger, Steve Earle’s boozy wisdom, Paul Westerberg’s straight-up-drunk wisdom — to construct an album of beauty, optimism and heartbreak”. Matt’s new album explores a cross-section of everything from straight-up rock n roll to hints of outlaw country. His album has received radio airplay on WZLX, 92.5 The River, WAAF 107.3 and radio stations across the country. His song “I’m Back” also earned him the New England Country Music Organization’s “2016 Traditional Country Song of the Year” award. He was also Alt-92.9 FM’s Local Artist of the Week.
Matt grew up in Foxboro and as a teenager, began playing shows with Boston music legend Rick Berlin and later fronted the indie punk band Wide Iris, Through the years he’s played the stages of CBGB, The Bitter End The Channel, T.T. the Bears, The Rat and several other places that no longer exist. He performs both as a solo artist and with a full band. He lives on the South Shore of Massachusetts.
